Like how any great love story starts, ours begins with fajitas, the oil & gas industry, and wakeboarding. Those all connect somehow, I promise. In the year 2021, Alec was but a young whippersnapper searching for love in all the wrong places. He was working an internship at Valero when he happened to find himself at the Wilfong residence with a group of interns all orchestrated by the maid of honor (Ashton Wilfong) and the father of the bride (Chad Wilfong, HR Director). Hadley was ironically returning from a wedding in Dallas, TX and upon her arrival home a strapping young man (Alec Layton) caught her eye. She proceeded to do everything she could to get as close as possible to him throughout the festivities of the night and Alec would let her. The group as a whole enjoyed fajitas together (prepared by the wonderful Tiffany Wilfong) over great conversation, but more importantly, the first meal Hadley and Alec shared together. Alec decided that night that Hadley would be his girlfriend, she just didn’t know it yet.


Fast-forward a couple weeks and Hadley still isn’t Alec’s girlfriend… He opted to take a more tactical approach and do some reconnaissance before jumping into something. This took the form of interrogating Ashton at length for some intel on her sister, and eventually planning a trip out to Lake LBJ with mostly the same intern group + Hadley. While out on the lake, Hadley broke out the wakeboard and started shredding all across the wake. This is when Alec likes to say he “fell in love” with Hadley.


Following this trip, Alec eventually wears Hadley down for a date. He came up with the brilliant idea of going to the Bowl & Barrel at the Rim in San Antonio; this ended up backfiring. Hadley won the friendly competition, in which a kiss was wagered, 3 games to 2. This showcased Hadley’s trademark competitive nature and at least guaranteed a second date for Alec, even if he didn’t get his kiss.


Many dates and many kisses later, Alec had finished college and accepted a job at Paycom as a Software Engineer. Unfortunately, this meant that he would be relocating to Dallas, TX, starting long distance for the pair... This ended up being a blessing in disguise however, as it taught both of them a lot about each other and themselves as individuals. On March 23rd, 2024, Alec finally wised up and asked Hadley to marry him at the Dallas Arboretum under a beautiful, old oak tree overlooking numerous cherry blossoms.
